Recently HM Courts and Tribunals Service has published annual statistics for 2018/2019. This data provides information relating to compensation awarded by employment tribunals in the jurisdictions of unfair dismissal, race discrimination, sex discrimination (along with gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership), disability discrimination, sexual orientation discrimination, religion or belief discrimination and age discrimination.
The mean award for the above discrimination jurisdictions gives a figure of £20,905. The median awards ranged from £1500 for religion/belief discrimination to £12,365 in age discrimination.
Currently the maximum limits set for compensation for unfair dismissal cases (dismissal from 6th April 2019) are:
basic award: £15,750
compensatory award: £86,444 or, if lower, 52 weeks’ gross pay
For redundancy pay award is up to £15,750.
